Privacy Policy — WrenchStrike

Last updated: October 20, 2026

WrenchStrike is built so your business data stays yours. This policy explains what the app does — and doesn't do — with information.

The short version: WrenchStrike has no accounts, no ads, and no tracking. Your business data — jobs, customers, invoices, photos — stays on your device unless you back it up to your own iCloud. The app does send some information off your device, and this page lists all of it: usage analytics and crash reports tied to a random ID for your install, what you send in the support chat, the part, car and ZIP or postal code you search for in Find parts, and VINs you decode. Your customers' names, phone numbers and invoices are never included. We never sell this information or use it for ads.

Information stored on your device. Jobs, customers, vehicles, invoices, estimates, payments, expenses, photos, signatures, and settings you enter are stored locally on your iPhone or iPad. We (HOMERUNUNIT L.L.C., a Michigan limited liability company) cannot access, view, or receive this information.

iCloud backup (optional). If you enable backup, your data is copied to your personal iCloud account in a private container managed by Apple. It is protected by your Apple ID and Apple's encryption. A backup contains everything stored in the app, including customer details, vehicles and VINs, invoices, photos and signatures. We have no access to your iCloud data and cannot read it. You can disable auto-backup in Settings at any time.

VIN decoding. When you scan or type a VIN, the app sends that VIN over an encrypted connection (HTTPS) to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's public vPIC service to look up the vehicle's year, make, model, and engine. The VIN is part of the web address of that request. Only the VIN is sent, only when you request a decode, and we do not receive or store it on any server of ours. When you pick a car from the year, make and model lists, the app also asks vPIC for those lists, sending only the year, make or vehicle type you chose. NHTSA's service is operated by the U.S. government. Like any website, it sees your device's IP address, and its own logs are outside our control.

Find parts (eBay listings). If your business region is the United States, United Kingdom, Canada or Australia, the app can show eBay listings for car parts. When you search in Find parts, the app sends the part name you typed, the car's year, make and model, your shop's ZIP or postal code (taken from the shop address in Settings) and your business country. If the car's engine or trim is known (from a VIN decode, or an engine you typed), that is sent too, along with the filters and sort order you choose on the Find parts sheet. The app also sends the part, car, ZIP or postal code, country and engine in the background when a part is typed or opened on an unsent estimate whose car has a year, make and model, so it can show a used-parts hint under the part name. You can turn these hints off with Show used-parts hints in Settings. When you tap or share a listing, the app sends the listing's number, the part name and your country to get a fresh link. All of this goes over an encrypted connection (HTTPS) to WrenchStrike's server, api.wrenchstrike.com (hosted by Cloudflare). Our server passes the part, car, engine or trim, ZIP or postal code, country and your filters to eBay and asks it for listings. eBay receives the request from our server, so it does not see your IP address. WrenchStrike has no accounts, so there is no account to send, and no device or install ID is sent. No VIN, license plate, customer, job or invoice data is sent, and no photos. Our server keeps search results in its memory only, so the same search again soon is quick. A result is never reused more than 4 hours after eBay sent it. They are not saved to a database, not sold and not used for ads. Our server does not log the parts, cars or ZIP codes you search for; its own logs hold only counts and outcomes, such as how many listings a search found and how long it took. Our server runs on Cloudflare. We keep no per-request logs: the server stores only daily request counts, with no IP address or other personal information, for 3 days. Cloudflare processes each request in order to deliver it, under Cloudflare's own privacy policy. The part name you search for, without numbers or the car, is included in our app analytics (see Analytics below) so we can learn which parts people look for. Your ZIP code, prices and names are never included. Listing photos load straight from eBay's servers, which see your device's IP address. Tapping a listing, or Buy on eBay, opens eBay's own page in a Safari window inside the app. WrenchStrike does not see what you do there. From there eBay's Privacy Notice applies, and eBay may use cookies to credit the referral. Links to eBay listings are eBay Partner Network affiliate links. If you buy through one, WrenchStrike may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. eBay Partner Network reports commissions to us by listing and part name, without anything that identifies you.

Analytics. The app sends usage events — such as the app being opened, a job, customer, estimate or invoice being created or sent, a job being marked paid, the upgrade screen being shown, a subscription purchase being started or completed, the support chat being opened, or a Find parts search, listing opened or part added — to TelemetryDeck (telemetrydeck.com) so we can see which features people actually use and where the app needs work. These events are counts of actions. Each event also carries the app version, iOS version and your plan (Pro monthly, Pro yearly, or no subscription). The one exception is Find parts: a search also sends the part words you typed, without numbers or the car. Your car, VIN, ZIP or postal code and customer names are never included. No name, email address, phone number, customer information, invoice content, photos, or location is ever sent with these analytics events. The identifiers attached are a random ID created on your device when the app is installed, which stays the same for as long as the app is installed, and a random ID for each session. The install ID leaves your device only as a one-way hash, and TelemetryDeck hashes it again before storing it. It cannot be linked back to you as a person, and it is never used for advertising or to track you across other apps or websites. TelemetryDeck keeps this data under its own retention policy. You can read TelemetryDeck's privacy policy at telemetrydeck.com/privacy.

Crash reports. If the app crashes or hits an error, it sends a crash report to Sentry (sentry.io), a service run by Functional Software, Inc., so we can find and fix the problem. A report contains technical details such as the error message, where in the app it happened, the app version, device model and iOS version. Reports of a crash of the whole app also include memory and storage details and a random installation ID that Sentry's software creates on your device. Before an error report from the app's screens is sent, email addresses, phone numbers, amounts, VINs and app data are removed or masked. We have configured Sentry not to store your IP address and not to capture screenshots, and we do not send your jobs, customers, invoices or photos in these reports. Sentry keeps reports for the retention period of our Sentry account (30 or 90 days by default). You can read Sentry's privacy policy at sentry.io/privacy.

Update check. At most a few times a day, the app asks Apple's App Store whether a newer version is available. Only WrenchStrike's App Store ID is sent.

Our website. Our website, wrenchstrike.com, uses TelemetryDeck to count anonymous page visits, video plays and App Store button taps, with no cookies and no personal information.

In-app support chat. WrenchStrike includes an optional live chat so you can reach us from inside the app. Nothing is sent unless you open the chat and send a message. When you do, the message text you type — and the email address you provide, if you give one so we can reply — is sent to and stored by Crisp IM SARL, a customer support provider based in France, acting as our processor on our behalf. If you attach a photo, Crisp receives that too. The shop name you have set in the app is passed along as a display name so we know who we are talking to, along with the app version and build, your device model, iOS version, your plan and the number of jobs in the app. Like most chat services, Crisp also records your IP address, an approximate location (city and country) based on it, and a session ID kept on your device. Crisp keeps conversations until they are deleted. This information is used for one thing only: answering your support request. It is never sold, never shared with advertisers, never used for advertising, and never used to track you across other apps or websites. You can read Crisp's privacy policy at crisp.chat/en/privacy. To have your chat history deleted, email us at the address at the bottom of this page.

Subscriptions. WrenchStrike Pro is purchased through Apple. Payment is handled entirely by the App Store; we never see your payment details. Manage or cancel anytime in your App Store subscription settings.

Camera and photos. The camera is used only to scan VIN barcodes, to scan expense receipts, to attach photos to your jobs, to add your shop logo, and to take a photo to send to support in the chat, with your permission. VIN barcodes and receipts are read on your device; the receipt image and the amount, date and store name read from it stay in the app. Photos and receipt scans are stored on your device (and in your iCloud backup if enabled). We receive a photo only if you attach it in the support chat.

Contacts. "From Contacts" opens the iPhone's own contact picker. Only the contact you pick is used: their name, one phone number and one email address are copied into your customer list on your device. The app cannot read your other contacts, and we never receive them.

Your customers' information. Details you record about your own customers (names, phone numbers, vehicles) are stored on your device for your use. We never receive them. As the business owner, you are responsible for handling your customers' information appropriately.

How long information is kept. Data in the app stays on your device, and in your iCloud backup if enabled, until you delete it. Our server (api.wrenchstrike.com) has no database. It keeps Find parts results in memory for at most 4 hours, stored under a one-way hash of the search rather than the part or ZIP or postal code itself, and eBay's parts catalog for a car (year, make and model only) for up to 24 hours. Its own logs hold only counts and outcomes. We keep no request logs that include your IP address; our server stores only daily request counts for 3 days. eBay, TelemetryDeck and NHTSA keep data under their own policies. Sentry keeps crash reports for 30 or 90 days by default. Crisp keeps support conversations until they are deleted.

Data deletion. You can delete any record inside the app, or delete the app to remove all local data. To remove iCloud backup data, disable auto-backup and manage the app's iCloud data in your device's iCloud settings. You can also export everything as CSV from Settings at any time — your data is never locked in.

Your choices. Find parts, VIN decoding, the support chat and iCloud backup only send information when you use them. You can turn off used-parts hints with Show used-parts hints in Settings. The app does not currently have a setting to turn off analytics or crash reports. To have your support chat history deleted, or for any other privacy request, email support@wrenchstrike.com.

Children. WrenchStrike is a business tool and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Your rights. We collect only what is listed above. We never sell it or use it for ads, and we share it only with the service providers named on this page so they can do their part. Support chat conversations are deleted on request. If you have any privacy question or request, contact us and we'll help.

Changes. If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the effective date above.
